Aptana 1.0

31 October 2007 15:21

I changed over to using Aptana from Eclipse a while ago now and haven’t looked back. It works fine with CFEclipse, subclipse and also has the benefit of built in CSS/JS support and optional AIR, PHP and Rails plugins.

Anyway, they’ve just released version 1 and also a slightly more feature filled “Pro” version.

Audio Fingerprinting

1 September 2007 17:35

last.fm have launched an audio fingerprinting tool to allow them to clean up meta data. Pretty good idea I think. If you’re a last.fm’r go help ‘em out.

Coldfusion 8 Mac Install

5 June 2007 22:31

Got the public beta running on my Macbook the other day and I have to say I was impressed. The install on a Intel Core2 Duo went painlessly and it has to be said quickly! I installed the server config with the built-in web server to start with and it started up first time of asking! A few quick tweaks to the apache connector shell script that ships to get the correct command and pathing for the MAC and apache2 was up and running serving out my sites. Now to test it properly :)

Dreamweaver 8 Cool Feature

7 October 2005 22:36

Just accidently found a really cool feature in Dreamweaver 8. If you select a block of code and hit “CTRL + T” you can type in a CF tag and surround the selected block of code, ideal for cfoutput, cfquery & cfif to name a few, ooo, and cftry.

Very handy. I think, and from the last version I didn’t think I’d say it, but, I actually like DW8. The code editor works, it doesn’t crash, it doesn’t randomly delete code, code collapse is back (ohh the Studio 4.5 memories) and the “CTRL + T” functionality. Very cool. Nice job MM.

Flex 2 Product Line and Flash Player 8.5

7 October 2005 12:15

I’ve had a bit of a play with Flex 1.5 and it’s nice, very nice but I don’t see how it’s going to go mainstream with the ridiculous cost! It’s going to be hard for any organisation to justify the cost.

Hopefully now Zorn is coming along and now that MM are part of the Eclipse foundation they’ll bring costs down. Only thing on the side you have to wonder about is with a big organisation like MM joining Eclipse will that influence it to much, who knows, time will tell. We’ve the ‘Macrodobe’ thing to actually happen yet which seems to have gone quiet. Guess these things take time though.
