Microformats & Icons

23 December 2006 16:55

Just started looking into and as such have added an hcard, some rel=”tag” and rel=”bookmark” links into the blog.

I’m using both Operator and Tails to see what’s going on.

Nicely pointless, yet very festive, icons added to December posts. Simple tweak to the output using day() and month() ensures the magic is limited. Cheers to Nick at n.design for the free icons.

This will be the last code update I think before Christmas, might tweak the entry page tomorrow hangover depending!

One of the many lists you’ll read and then forget about again, Top 10 Web Developer Libraries. Still quite useful if you’ve never seen any of the web2.0 stuff about.

Flickr Gamma

17 May 2006 12:30

Just getting into using Flickr and have been busy uploading photos . Logged in last night however to find it’s gone from beta to gamma status and with it got a whole load of changes.

The organiser is now full screen and non flash, it’s been ajax’ed royally and to be honest not sure it’s as nice to use. Other noticable changes are the drop down menus up the top which again I’m not sure about.

Time will tell as will user feedback, I’m sure I’ll get use to it. Next on the list is playing with API to get photos inline on the site.

Google Web Toolkit

17 May 2006 12:28

Another beta release from Google:

Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is a Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy for developers who don’t speak browser quirks as a second language. Writing dynamic web applications today is a tedious and error-prone process; you spend 90% of your time working around subtle incompatabilities between web browsers and platforms, and JavaScript’s lack of modularity makes sharing, testing, and reusing AJAX components difficult and fragile.

DHTML Image Cropping

2 April 2006 14:29

Following on from the previous post and another DHTML need for some image cropping widgets also found this example from Speedingrhino. The DHTML image cropping interface us really neat!

Hooked up with the some Coldfusion to do image resizing (or the Alagad ImageCFC you could create a nifty little UI.

Ajax

26 May 2005 9:40

An interesting article over at adaptive path on the changing face of web applications and how they’re moving closer to desktop applications. Examples given are Google Maps & Google Suggest. Ajax being short hand for Asynchronous JavaScript + XML. Worth a read.
