NT4 & CFMX 6.1 Updater

23 August 2005 13:57

Had an issue where a Windows NT4 server needed to have CF MX 6.1 installed on it. That all went fine, problem came when the 6.1 updater was attempted to be installed. The issue presented itself by the updater installer seemingly hanging on the 3rd screen, just before you click OK to preceed.

The issue is with the OS (NT4) not supporting DirectDraw (per Tech Support needs DirectX v8.1 or greater). You can get the updater to work though by specifying an environment variable to tell Java to not use 3d drawing and only use 2d.

You can set this value by right-clicking on “My computer”, then:

Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables

Add a “New…” variable in “System variables” section, Variable Name is “_JAVA_OPTIONS” and the Variable Value set to “-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true”

Hit apply and try running the installer again.

As the battle for earth imaging continues a Flash entry. This combines both the ability to look at google earth and msn earth in a cool flash interface. Shows what flash can do quite well.

fitness to practice

15 August 2005 22:03

You’ve probably heard by now the “london underground” song, if you haven’t and live in the UK you need to. Point your browser and amateur transplants site, the home of the song.

The album arrived in the post the other day and now I’ve listened to it a couple of times it really is very very good. They say it’s likely to offend which it might, only the language really, wouldn’t suggest playing to anyone under the age of 15!

Go and support these 2 guys by buying the album, and no, I’m not on commision.

Shameless plug, but hey, I don’t care. Just finished a re-design of a holiday villa site for a friend or a friend. It’s a lovely villa as well, reasonable rates =D

office-humour.co.uk

15 August 2005 8:58

Well it’s update time again, Google seemed to have stopped mucking about now and office-humour.co.uk is back up at number 3 for a search for “humour”, it was at 2 but seems be jumping about a bit right now.

There are some changes coming as well, nothing major really. The backend is getting a makeover to make it a bit more efficient and also the layout is being redone into CSS which should make it a bit lighter and quicker.

It’s also going to become part of the office-hours.co.uk network along with office-games.co.uk and a few new sites which will be reering their heads very soon (hopefully!).

As always if you’ve got any suggestions for the site please let us know.
