Portable Mozilla Stuff

11 January 2005 20:21

Looking into getting Firefox and Thunderbird running on my USB pen drive and doing a quick google came across JohnHaller.com. He’s done it all and seems to be very good, not tried yet but looks like just what I’m after.

Blackstone Certification

11 January 2005 15:06

Interesting post taken off the cf-talk mailing regarding Blackstone (CF7) certification.

From Macromedia:

You will need to recertify on the new Blackstone exam. We offer a 25% upgrade discount for currently certified professionals. Please circle back when the new ColdFusion exam launches.

So, if you haven’t gotten certified yet and you don’t have a pressing reason to do so before Blackstone, it seems that you’d be better waiting until then. I just figured I’d share the information that I received since it seemed to be a popular topic.

Coldfusion penetration in the UK

10 January 2005 10:41

Ben Forta posted in reply to John B’s post about his seeming lack of information regarding CF exposure in the UK.

I’ll repeat here the comment I made over on Neil’s blog that if Macromedia payed more attention in the UK, and Europe for that matter they might notice!

CFEurope is yet another example of this, the story is there wasn’t enough sponsorship which is undoubtably true, but, if MM wanted it to happen I’m sure they could have contributed more than they did.

Sorry for the rant but hey, needs to be said.

GIMP – for Windows

9 January 2005 20:54

If you’ve ever used UNIX for web design and graphics work you’ll have probably come across GIMP. GIMP is a free image editing package. Reason for this post is that they do a Windows version which I found whilst looking for something else.

Hope it helps someone, not that exciting but hey.

Jerry Springer The Opera

8 January 2005 23:38

Almost finished watching The Jerry Springer Opera on BBC 2 and I think it’s very good. The music is great, the singer’s, choreography are all very good.

It’s come up for a lot of critism by religious groups, which, I’m not going to get too far involved with because my religion of which I’m proud is Jedi, but anyway. They should just shut up and let it be to be honest. It’s a bit of a rant this but needs to be said.

The UK is a country of free speech and as such I think the BBC are right to show it. If people don’t like it they don’t have to watch it do they?

Soapbox moment over. More information on the BBC coverage

Native Win32 ports of some GNU utilities

8 January 2005 21:31

Had a need whilst doing some dev work to tail a CF log file, having got used to Solaris in my last job “tail -f” was very handy. These ports allow you to run some UNIX commands on Windoze with dependency only on msvcrt.dll (C-runtime) rather than Cygwin or something more fancy.

More information and downlod.
