404 Fun
Is your 404 looking a bit drab and dreary? Have a peek at Area 404 where you can see examples of how different people have approached the same issue.

Thinking about buying a Claude Valentini or Krug-Baumen watch, as I was from eBay, well DON’T. It’s a scam and has been uncovered by the BBC’s WatchDog programme. Update link eBay Forums.
I was convinced, good job I did some research. I thought it was odd when only eBay links came up and a dodgy *main* site. Anyway, you live and learn.
Just submitted to CFLib.org a new UDF that I’ve written called thisMonth().
thisMonth() will return a structure of structures containing information about the month including date object for each day, each day as a string and each day’s date letters ie “st,nd,rd,th”. Also start and end day as entries, number of days in that month and the month number.
It defaults to the current month but you can also pass a date object into it.
You can have a look at the example or take a look at view the code.
Currently the host this site and a couple of other’s are run on have the Urchin web statistics package running. I have a need to expose these stats for a 3rd party.
Urchin do have a perl script that extracts data but, due to the server configuration it’s not working correctly. I’m currently working on a small CF application will extract the stats via cfhttp and either display them on screen or write them to a specifed location. Should have the code available soon.
Finally yesterday Half-Life 2 got released.
After waiting about 20 minutes for Steam to unlock the files it eventually began loading up. Had a free voucher from my last graphics card hence using Steam to get it.
Downside before I’d even started was it took an age to load, I was watching the initial load screen for another 10 minutes before I got going, but boy was it worth the wait!
The graphics are out of this world, the introduction movie when you start is brilliant. Go get it now.
Simple. Go order it now. Buy it.
Just saw this link over on Ray Camden’s site, and, as he says it’s brilliant. This is as good as Honda’s Cog advert.
Intersting new site that’s popped up run by a chap from RawNet, a UK web design company.
Taken from the site:
“So what’s the point of all this? The basic idea is to have an informal contest where people can either brush up on some CF skills that they may not use in their everyday coding, or for those that already know everything to dazzle everyone else with their mighty coding knowledge!”
Some various links taken off blogs about stuff that happened at MAX. More when I get round to it.

Saw The Thrills play the first date on their new UK tour supporting the new album Let’s Bottle Bohemia
at the Hexagon in Reading.
It was awesome, the set was great including stuff from the first album (So Much for the City
) and of course the new one. Particular favourites included Big Sur, Saturday Night, The Curse Of Comfort, What Ever Happened To Corey Haim & Santa Cruz (closed on).
The lighting was great, when one of the lights got turned off and we could see the stage again, crowd surfing by the 2 guitarists, great encore and standing ovation. If you can get tickets I’d recommend you go.
