Bloody Government Taxes

16 January 2004 23:00

Council tax, it’s a pain in the arse and to high. The proposed tax/fine whatever if you’re caught speeding! What’s going on, are the motorists supposed to pay for this governments inability to manage our money.

The latest news on council funding reforms is all fine because there does need to be a solution, but with the news also that local authorities are thinking of putting in local income tax, house taxes, green taxes etc. we may as well just give the bloody government what little of our salaries we actually get paid out and claim a weekly allowance! If they take much more tax we’re not going to have any money left… and to top it off I bet most of the tax is used to pay for people claiming benefit who don’t need it and the swamp of sodding asylum seekers (I’m not even going to start on that).

Rah.

All these changes to council tax if they do change, and we get more different local level taxes will make it more like the old Poll tax. You should pay a flat capped rate for the house you’re in then more depending on who’s in it. Simple.Oh and on another note good luck to Mr Estall.

Crazy Uptimes

16 January 2004 23:00

Just been sent an email with a link to and amusing page on Microsoft’s site: Running the World’s Busiest Corporate Web Site on Windows Server 2003Pay particular attention to the Running Ahead of Schedule paragraph where the statement is made “We’re seeing crazy uptime numbers now, like three months, six months. I fully expect we’ll see a year of uptime when Windows Server 2003 is finished,”Hmm, now I work mainly with Sun Solaris boxes, if we got uptime of 3 months I’d have grief! I think most of the production boxes are running at well over 400 days! Except the dev box but hey! Here’s a nice screen capture, just to prove it.

Back to work

16 January 2004 23:00

Oh the joys of going back to work. It’s hard to sound so synical whilst typing, one of the big problems with text on the net, tone of voice. Anyway.Well the alarm went of at 7:00, to be honest I’d forgotten what that time of day looks like having not been up before 9:30 for just over 2 weeks. Ah well, think of the money, hmm.On another note at least I didn’t have to listen to Sara Cox though when the radio came on, now Radio 1 have Chris Moyles doing the breakfast show, at last someone has seen the light! Good show Chris, not that I expect you’ll read this!

Terror Arrest

16 January 2004 23:00

So Americans want armed marshalls on planes, well seems a bit pointless if they’re going to let people with bullets get on the planes anyway. I heard a quote from an American chap who worked for the Travel Department (or whatever it is) and he’d said that although the suspect didn’t necessarily have the bullets when he boarded the place at Washington DC’s Dulles it was the likely source. What did he expect, you imagine it can’t you, cabin service comes round “Hello Sir, would you like a drink… white wine, red, beer, round of bullets”. Another commentator on BBC Radio 4 hd said which I agree with that we could end up spending so much time “following intelligence leads” that basic security checking would go overlooked.Related:

Support Cut Off Delayed

16 January 2004 23:00

In true Microsoft style another one of their deadlines/key dates has been pushed back. This article on The Register details how they’ve decided to delay the support cutof date for Windows 98, 98 SE & ME until June 2006. It was supposed to happen this Friday.Clearly they’ve finally realised that no-one is prepared to constantly upgrade to the next best version, and that people actually are happy with 98. Well, I doubt it, but hey.
