Government Forms

31 January 2004 10:51

Clear as mud, that’s what they are! First moan is you have to trapse all the way to the Post Office to get the form in the first place, erm dur, they’re all “e” versions somewhere, stick ‘em on a website, hey forms.gov.uk not tricky. Anyway, form in question is reclaiming Premimum Bonds. Most of the form is fine but one bit about how you only actually repay part, ooo grr. Rant over.

JDS Update

28 January 2004 8:33

Got JDS up and running on my laptop. Surprisingly painless, though configuring the graphic card to use the latest driver was a little bit tricky, had to resort to following a README. How shocking, that’s one of those docu.. somethings :-) Also installed ColdFusion MX first time without any problems. Easy as pie.

Microsoft Get Away With Again!

27 January 2004 3:15

This is a follow up to the earlier post that MS started having a go at Mike Rowe for his offending domain name. Today I read this article on The Register. Unbelievable, however, not as bad as Gates’ claim that he forecasts victory over spam. Erm, how?

Right then, got the new HDD for my laptop, a nice shiny, and very tiny, Fujitsu MHT2060AT. Going to stick on Win XP to start with, then partition the disk up and stick on the new Sun Java Desktop. Should be fun.Once that’s on I’ll be testing out running CFMX6.1 on it so they’ll be some information on that. Watch this space.

office-humour.co.uk

20 January 2004 23:00

One of the other sites I co-own and run is office-humour.co.uk, just thought I’d include a quick history of it and the latest information. The site is a collection of jokes, funny stories, images and files that have been collated from office emails. It started off as a small site but now is hugely successful. The average page views per month is over 394,000 and hits 1,290,000. They’re averages! Peak month to date saw hits over 3,000,000 and page views over 717,000.The site is now also listed on the first page of most search engines when doing a search for the keyword being used to measure this which is “office humour” (see Google, Lycos, MSN, Yahoo, Excite, Altavista and Dogpile. On all of these sites office-humour.co.uk (OH) is in the top 4 entries, and in most cases in the top 2!Also a site good to track worldwide position of sites is Alexa, a Amazon company which has information and traffic details on sites. OH is currently ranked at 96,226. This has gone up from 258,368 when OH was first noticed being listed. Not bad really.Of course if you want to advertise or sponsor OH in any sense, shape or form send an email over and we’ll get in touch…. oh and if you’ve not been there before, get over there now!

mfop2

19 January 2004 23:00

Wow, it works! Been playing with MFOP2 a mobile blogging thingie that lets me send an email from my phone (SE T610) straight to my blog. How cool! Need to work on the formatting as you can see but hey!Was going to write a CF version but, it’s hard because you can email a pop3 box fine, but how can you trigger something to check the email and use the MT XML-RPC interface to post. You could have a schedule task but that’s a bit long winded. I’ll have a think on this though.
